GREENPEACE DAY ๐Ÿ’š

Greenpeace Day

On Monday 15th September, we are celebrating Greenpeace Day! Dedicated to helping the world become a more sustainable and peaceful world, we are proud to support this campaign.

Who are Greenpeace? โ˜ฎ๏ธ

Founded in 1971, Greenpeace are known globally for their commitment towards environmental activism. Their current mission involves restoring the worlds biodiversity, as the WWF found that wildlife populations have declined by 69% on average since 1970. This is due to a combination of wild habitats being destroyed and irreversible effects from climate change.

Additionally, Greenpeace are fighting to reduce emissions by half by the end of this decade. This goal to achieve net zero would lead to cleaner air and enhanced biodiversity. Additionally, becoming a more sustainable planet would lead to economic advantages too, due to new, greener jobs being established, and generating energy in a cleaner manner would be more cost effective!

How can we help Greenpeace? ๐Ÿง

Cycle To work ๐Ÿšฒ

Cycling to work is the perfect method of reducing our planets carbon footprint. It has been found that commuting to work via bike daily can reduce an individual’s carbon footprint by 1,000kg annually! Plus, with the recent introduction of electric bikes, commuters can travel to and from even more efficiently!

Cycling to work is also key to improving mental health! Therefore, cycling to work can have environmental and personal benefits.

However, lack of bike storage is a key factor which discourages individuals from cycling to and from work. For safe bike storage, we offer a variety of cycle shelters suitable for easy installation at your workplace. Specifically, the Dudley Cycle Shelter. It is made from durable steel and has a Perspex roof and back. This protects your bikes from harsh outdoor elements after you have locked it up.

The benefits of car sharing ๐Ÿš—

We understand that sometimes, cycling to work is not a viable option for commuting. That is why we recommend car sharing. Stats have shown that car sharing can reduce emissions by up to 27%. Therefore, this is an amazing alternative to cycling, especially if multiple individuals commute from the same area!

Additionally, if car sharing became more frequent, there would be a reduction in traffic jams. In turn, there would be more car parking spots available for those having to commute by car!

Reduce, reuse, recycle โ™ป๏ธ

Greenpeace are striving to reduce the drastic effects of plastic pollution. Especially after the COVID epidemic, the desire for single use plastic increased significantly. The UK has become one of the worst countries in the world for plastic waste. This is because we send the majority of our used plastic to countries such as Turkey so it can be burnt.

Therefore, recycling has become a huge part of Greenpeace’s agenda. At Direct2U, we support the motion of reducing our plastic landfill waste, and offer a large variety of recycling bins to help minimise its effects. This includes our Rubbermaid Glutton Recycling Kit, ideal for separating waste to fit your local councils recycling regulations!
