In the “Official Buildings Regulations” with which all public buildings must comply, there is specific reference made to the usage of Fire Retardancy materials on walls in areas of sensitivity/ risk such as fire escapes.
When looking to purchase a notice board for public buildings e.g schools we advise you ask your self the following questions:
- Where will the notice board be placed?
- Does the designated wall form part of a Fire Escape Route?
- Are you planning to use a covered tamperproof notice board?
If you answered corridor, stairway or entrance/exit within a public building to question 1 then fire retardant notice boards area a legal requirement.
If you answered Yes to question 2 then fire retardant notice boards are a legal requirement. Please Note: A classroom is deemed as a corridor and as a fire escape route should there be a fire exit going out from the classroom itself.
If you are planning to use a covered tamperproof notice board then it is recommended that a top hinged model is used. See BB100 – Designing and Managing Against the Risk of Fire in Schools.
On April 6th 2008 the new Corporate Manslaughter Act came into force highlighting the importance for senior management to act within current regulations.
We offer a range of fire retardant notice boards that will help you comply with the Building Regulations.
