Here at Wheelie Bins Direct2U we aim to provide our readers with information not just about wheelie bins, but about many other waste and recycling topics. This week, the topic is recycling. Why should we recycle? What good does recycling do?
There are many reasons why we should recycle in the UK. It’s surprising the number of people that do not realise the benefits it can bring! That is why we have compiled a list of reasons why you to recycle.
Recycling conserves resources
Recycling can help conserve important raw materials, protecting natural habitats along the way. When we recycle however, used materials are converted into new products, reducing the need to use natural resources and raw materials.
Recycling helps protect the environment
The natural environment was touched upon in the above point. But recycling can help the environment further than protecting natural habitats. Recycled paper alone can save millions of trees. Recycling also reduces the need for extracting, refining and processing raw materials, all of which create air and water pollution.
Recycling saves energy
Did you know more energy is required to extract, refine, transport and process raw materials compared with providing industry-ready recycled materials? Using recycled materials in the manufacturing process uses considerably less energy than producing new products from raw materials. Saving energy also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change.
Recycling reduces landfill
Recycling waste reduces the amount of rubbish sent to landfill sites. In2011, landfill sites in the UK produced a quarter of the UK’s emissions of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas which can harm the environment.
