Wheelie Bin Climbs A Mountain

A travelling bin?

Three young men caused a stir when they littered Ben Nevis during a charity stunt. Deciding to make amends, these men have now staged another charity event, in which they will pull a wheelie bin from Glasgow to London in measure of their contribution. They also took the wheelie bin back up the 1,344 metres (4,409 ft) tall Ben Nevis and collected any litter.

What?

Glasgow based Matt Blake, 20 and his two friends Jay Bell (23) and Ramon Valenti (24) made headlines earlier this year after they ‘tramped’ up Ben Nevis carrying a wooden bench as part of a stunt for Children’s Hospice Association Scotland. Mountaineers and conservationists were outraged when the group cemented a bench on the summit of Ben Nevis and left behind a bag of rubbish. One mountaineer was so outraged they walked to the top of Ben Nevis, sawed the bench into 27 pieces and then carried it back down to the bottom.

Why?

To redeem themselves the trio dragged the wheelie bin up the mountain to collect their rubbish and any other litter they found on the way. After hauling the bin up and down the mountain they disposed of the rubbish and decided to raise more cash by wheeling the wheelie bin a further 410 miles from Glasgow to London. This time, instead of rubbish the wheelie bin contained their tent and sleeping bags. The boys set off for London on August 8th and finished the challenge on the 6th September meeting their one month target. The boys all took one month unpaid off work to complete the challenge but say it was all worth it in the end.
