Southport Get New Wheelie Bins
Brown wheelie bins are being used in homes across Southport as part of a recycling initiative. The new wheelie bins will be used for recycling plastics and cardboard. Southport’s residents are in the process of receiving letters and calendars telling them the dates and details of when the bins will be delivered.
The introduction of the new brown wheelie bins for cardboard and plastic recycling will be phased across Southport, Sefton and Formby over a number of months. The wheelie bins will start being delivered in March and the roll out will continue during April and May.
Residents who currently have grey and green wheelie bins can expect a letter via post along with a new collection calendar and their bin will be delivered within a month of them receiving the letter. Under the new scheme, the brown wheelie bins will be collected on the same day but alternative weeks to the grey house hold waste bin.
No changes will be made to the current weekly recycling collection service. However, to facilitate the new brown/ grey wheelie bin alternating collection schedule, the green waste service will change to be collected on Sunday and Mondays.
Seftons Council cabinet member Trish Hardy says: “It is great to see the roll out of plastics and cardboard recycling facilities across the whole of the borough.
“With the introduction of the new bin, it is hoped this will help us to continue recycling as much waste as possible and avoid sending it to expensive landfill sites.
“Currently our recycling rate is about 39% – one of the best on Merseyside – and hopefully it will continue to improve under the introduction of this service.
“Please look out for the information dropping through letterboxes very soon and your new brown wheelie bin will be delivered in the coming weeks.”
