One man in Milton Keynes is using other peoples trash to create treasure for charity. Almost 10 months ago, George Thomson signed up to be one of the UK’s only public recycling collection points for Tassimo users. People in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area who want to recycle their coffee machines T-DISCS, outer foil packaging and more can drop them off in the red wheelie bin at Thomson’s home.
Two terracycle points are earned from the weight of each piece of Tassimo waste he sends in for recycling and then each point is redeemable for a one pence contribution towards Thomson’s chosen charity, which is Macmillan Cancer Support.
When George Thomson was first accepted as a public drop off location he had no idea of the potential and aimed to raise £50. However, the response has been amazing and Mr Thomson has sent over 56,000 pieces of Tassimo waste for recycling raising just over £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support in less than 12 months.
Mr Thomson is encouraging anyone who wants to recycle their T-DISCS and outer foil packaging to drop them round his house. The red wheelie bin can be accessed seven days a week, 24 hours a day. He has also set up a facebook page named ‘Tassimo Recycling – Milton Keynes” where you can find out more information and follow the progress of the recycling fundraising collections.
We love this story and we love to hear how people use their wheelie bins. Many people assume they are just to throw rubbish into and that’s the end of the story but here at Wheelie Bins Direct2U we know that isn’t the case. We have seen wheelie bin racing, wheelie bin fancy dress costumes, wheelie bin acrobatics and much more. If you have any interesting ideas or stories to share with us please let us know at marketing@direct2u.co.uk.
