Sometimes it can be confusing and time consuming sorting out your waste into the right wheelie bin.
But what effort will the Council go to; to make sure we get our recycling right?
Bolton Council is trialling a new scheme which they hope will help residents recycle their waste correctly. The ‘Right Stuff, Right Bin’ campaign has been designed to reinforce the message to local residents that not everything can be recycled in the area such as yoghurt pots, food trays and carrier bags. And also when items can be recycled they have to be placed in the right bin.
What does this mean for the local residents?
- After each collection residents will be left with either a green ‘thank you’ tag on bins that contained the correct items for recycling
- If incorrect items were found in the bin then a red ‘wrong stuff, wrong bin’ tag will be left
- If incorrect items are found in recycling bins then these will also not be collected
- The red tag will have a reminder of which items can go in the specified bin so that it will be collected the next time.
The campaign will be trialled over the next eight weeks in Halliwell, and if a success will eventually be introduced into other parts of Bolton.
So do we find multiple wheelie bins confusing?
A survey done by The Bolton News which asked ‘Do you find multiple wheelie bins confusing?’ showed that 69% said No, which would suggest that the majority do not mind sorting their waste.
What do you think about having multiple wheelie bins for general waste and recycling – do you believe it is confusing?
