Locker Buyer's Guide

Lockers Buying Guide by Direct2U

Step 1 Step 1: Select the carcass size

For this you need to choose the width of the locker and the depth. As standard lockers are 1800mm high, this only changes when you are looking at purchasing school lockers, laptop storage lockers and plastic lockers.

Our website will give you the width and depth options for each locker. Select which locker you are interested in and make following choices based upon the drop downs given.

E.g. our Armour Standard Lockers are available in four carcass sizes:

  • W300 x D300 mm
  • W300 x D450 mm
  • W380 x D380 mm
  • W450 x D450 mm

Step 2 Step 2: Select the number of compartments

Lockers are available with different sized compartments. Per locker carcass (which you have just selected the size for) you can have one compartment, 2 compartments, 4 or 6 compartments.

If you wish to store coats or clothing then a 1 or 2 compartment locker is the best choice. If you wish to store bags or books then a four compartment locker is ideal, and if you wish to store personal items only or small bags then a six compartment locker will be more than ample.

Step 3 Step 3: Select the door type

This depends on where you are planning to position and use the locker. There are a wide range of locker door options so for a full explanation please read our locker lesson: Door Types. The most popular door types available are:

» Steel – the majority of locker have steel doors, they are suitable for all dry environments and offer good security along with longevity and an affordable price

» Laminate – allow for a wider range of door colour options and finishes, they are tough doors which will not scratch, rust or dent , a wise choice for busy areas where lockers will be put through lots of daily wear and tear

» Plastic – provide an outdoor locker solution, they are designed for use is damp or wet environments and can be frequently washed down if that is a requirement

» Timber – often found in sports and leisure clubs and changing facilities

Step 4 Step 4: Select the door colour

Lockers are available in a variety of colours, and this is where you can start to choose how the locker will look in your available space. For ideas you could go bold and choose bright and colourful colour options, or you could use your corporate colours.

Step 5 Step 5: Select the quantity

This is where you need to decide how many lockers you need (note: that’s not how many compartments you need) and you will need to have an idea of how many people you need to provide lockers for.

For example, if you need enough storage for 50 people and have chosen a 2 door locker as you need some small hanging space you will need 25 lockers.

Example 2, if you need storage for 30 people and have chosen a 4 door locker as you need to storage bags, folders and books you will need 8 lockers which will provide enough storage for 32 people, 7 lockers of this size will only provide enough storage for 28 people.
