In 2013\/14 injuries from falls were 5% lower than 2012\/13.&nbsp;Injuries from falls have slowly decreased over the years. However&nbsp;fatalities from falls from height have remained steady. In 2013\/14 the percentage of fatal injuries&nbsp;occurred from falls at&nbsp;height didn&#8217;t decrease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Falls from height occur in most industries and sectors. In 2013\/14 about half of all fatal injuries due to falls from height were in the construction section. The construction sector also accounted for a fifth of&nbsp;all major&nbsp;fall injuries in 2013\/14.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Working at Height Regulations<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Working at Height Regulations (WAH, 2005) applies to all;&nbsp;where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">As part of the Regulations you must ensure:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: center; margin-left: 200px;\">\n<li>working at height has been&nbsp;planned and organised<\/li>\n<li>those involved in working at height are competent<\/li>\n<li>the risk&nbsp;from working at height have been&nbsp;assessed<\/li>\n<li>appropriate working equipment have been&nbsp;selected and used<\/li>\n<li>management of the risk of working on or near fragile surfaces<\/li>\n<li>equipment used for working at height is safe for use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; margin-left: 50px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/direct2u.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/construction-worker-495373_640.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-302\" title=\"Working at Height\" src=\"https:\/\/direct2u.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/construction-worker-495373_640.jpg\" alt=\"Working at Height\" width=\"382\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/direct2u.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/construction-worker-495373_640.jpg 640w, https:\/\/direct2u.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/construction-worker-495373_640-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 382px) 100vw, 382px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">What can you do to prevent accidents?<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Carry out a risk assessment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">If access from a fixed point of working takes over 30 minutes and a ladder cannot be used, consider using a Mobile Step, Access Platform or an Access Tower.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Select the right equipment<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Don\u2019t make do to save money or time. As an employer you must consider your workers safety. Inappropriate use of access equipment may be dangerous and may also lead to prosecution.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Train your workers<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Make sure that those using the access equipment know how to use it correctly.&nbsp;Including the erecting and disassembling of equipment safely. Ensure your workers are competent to work&nbsp;at height and use the access equipment provided.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Inspect and maintain equipment<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Regular inspections of equipment ensure safe use.&nbsp;It&#8217;s recommended that&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/pubns\/indg455.pdf\" data-cke-saved-href=\"http:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/pubns\/indg455.pdf\">Step Ladders and Ladders<\/a>&nbsp;which have a daily&nbsp;use, have been inspected by a person of authority every 3 months.
