In the next year a fee will be brought in for residents of Wolverhampton who require an extra bin. The first bin that all residents should already have was free of charge but the council have decided if a second bin is required then residents will have to pay extra.<\/p>\n

Council bosses have described the charge as \u2018good value for money\u2019 as they won\u2019t be making any profit from the scheme. The new bins will be green bins with brown lids and will be collected at the same time as other green bins. Member of the cabinet for city services, Councillor John Reynolds has said that the council had been inundated with requests for additional bins throughout summer. \u201cWe have come up with the figure of \u00a335 which we consider to be good value for money for gardeners who require an extra bin\u201d.<\/p>\n

It was revealed that the council spend more than \u00a350,000 providing new or replacement garden waste wheelie bins over the past 12 months. Amey, a waste collection company that works for the council, released figures showing that over 3000 green bins were provided over 2013\/2014 costing \u00a317.55 each.<\/p>\n

The council\u2019s spend on the 240 litre wheelie bins totalled at \u00a354,530. Wolverhampton City Council spokesman Tim Clark stated that bins were replaced if they had been vandalised, subject to accidental damage or suffered from natural wear and tear.<\/p>\n

The collection service visits 98,000 domestic properties in the city although only around 75% of households use the service. Around 80% of the total annual tonnage of garden waste is collected between April and October. Last month the council announced it was scrapping garden waste collections as of the start of
\nDecember to the end of March in a bid to save \u00a380,000 a year. The move caused some residents asking for a reduction in their council tax payments.<\/p>\n
