Wheelie bins are due to be rolled out to a further 22000 homes across Hounslow in the next month following a successful trial run. The new bins are set to be delivered to homes in parts of Chiswick, Brentford, Isleworth, Heston, Feltham, Hounslow and Bedfont. The dates of deliveries are around 10th-21st<\/sup> November and collections will commence from 24th<\/sup> November.<\/p>\n

Where it all began<\/h3>\n

Wheelie bins were first issued to about 7,300 homes in the summer of 2013 on a purely trial basis. A council survey found that 94% of recipients supported the introduction of the bins. Recycling in the areas with wheelie bins rose by 4% during the trial and the over all amount of rubbish dropped by almost a third. This saved the council an estimated \u00a367,000 a year in landfill tax.<\/p>\n

Steve Curran, the Hounslow Council Leader said that \u201cwheelie bins not only help us save money but they also help keep our streets cleaner than black bin bags which often split open and attract rats and foxes\u201d.<\/p>\n

Not every one is happy with the idea of 140 litre wheelie bins as it\u2019s been claimed they cause a bit of a smell in parts of Chiswick. John Todd who is the Conservative councillor for Chiswick Homefields has claimed that his residents are \u201cincandescent\u201d with anger about the bins.<\/p>\n

Todd believes that should be consulted on a ward by ward basis about whether or not they would use the containers which he claimed were a waste of money and make streets look less tidy.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople in Chiswick already recycle and only put out one small black bag each week so they don\u2019t need a huge wheelie bin[\u2026] We\u2019re punishing the majority for the sins of the minority who don\u2019t recycle\u201d.<\/p>\n

Here at Wheelie Bins Direct2U we fail to see how wheelie bins can be considered a bad thing. We all know that black bin bags out on the street attract all kinds of vermin and just cause a general mess. Using wheelie bins as a waste management solution is ideal for keeping mess and smell to a minimum. They also provide home owners somewhere secure and easy to store their full bin bags during the week. Another benefit of wheelie bins are that it is easier for residents to transport their rubbish to and from the road side, where it is also then easier for the collection service to do their job.<\/p>\n
