Wheelie Bin – Wheelie Fun Championships<\/h2>\n

We\u2019ve always known that wheelie bins are the best thing since sliced bread, but \"wheelie-bins\"this just proves it. In Thoona, a small Australian town with less than 500 residents, an annual Wheelie Bin Championships is held.<\/p>\n

The event began in 2000 and consists of competitors using a wheelie bin as a racing vehicle. The entrants adapt their wheelie bins to be the best racing cart they can make (without adding an engine) by adding extra wheels, a seat and racing decorations. The idea is based on the old soapbox derby races but with a modern, wheelie fun twist. There are a range of wheels used ranging from bike wheels to pram wheels and even the number of wheels used differs. Some go for the sturdy option of four wheels whilst the more daring participants go for the slim line three wheel option.<\/p>\n

The championships even have their own Facebook page<\/a> and there is even video<\/a> footage from the event on 2010 where we can see the whole town turn out for the unique race. There are 6 different categories including; under 13 conforming, open conforming, open non-conforming, overall champion, shoot out winner and best presented. The championships get a lot of local news coverage from newspapers to radio and small local businesses are invited to participate by having stalls selling their goods.<\/p>\n
