Birmingham: the latest council to introduce the wheelie bin scheme!<\/h2>\n

Over the next two years wheelie bins<\/a> will be rolled out over Birmingham. Currently, a pilot scheme is taking place in the areas of Brandwood and Harbourn to see whether the wheelie bin will be a success. The council are providing two wheelie bins per household \u2013 one for rubbish disposal and one for recycling, to encourage waste separation and recycling in the city.<\/p>\n

Birmingham council are keen to stress the benefits of having wheelie bins opposed to the black bag collections, having wheelie bins replaces the present collection of black bags left on the pavement, which can be torn open allowing waste to spill onto our streets, waste which is often not picked up and therefore encourages vermin. It is also suggested that wheelie bins will improve recycling and should make recycling within the home much easier and overall will reduce the cost of waste disposal whilst maintaining weekly collections, which should leave money to be spent elsewhere in the community.<\/p>\n

What about green waste wheelie bins?<\/h3>\n

Optional green waste collections will also be introduced from February 2014 as a chargeable service. Those wishing to participate in this scheme will receive a 240 litre wheelie bin, and for those who do not want to take part they shall have the option of purchasing a composter for the garden from the council.<\/p>\n
