The Big Tidy Up – Community Clear Up Day is back and bigger than ever! This Saturday (21st March) is officially the first day of Spring and that is definitely something worth celebrating. Communities around the country are organising ‘Clear Up’ days on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st.
What is a Community Clear Up Day? I hear you ask. Well, this is a national spring clean movement backed by the Government who’s aim is to spruce up the country’s high streets, parks, villages and other residential areas etc.
Want to get involved? The first 300 community groups including schools, uniformed groups, local authorities etc to register a Clear Up Day event will receive a free Big Tidy Up pack.
The Big Tidy Up is England’s biggest ever litter pick and the aim is get everyone of all ages out and about to help clean up their community and to understand how small actions can make big changes. Bridging the gap between generations and cultures is key to the Big Tidy Up’s mission and since 2008 the scheme has mobilised more than half a million people into more than 25,000 litter collecting teams.
According to stats provided by The Big Tidy Up, last year around 3942 bags of rubbish were collected by over 30000 volunteers. There were also over 1300 clear up events organised. Organisers hope that 2015 figures will top last years and the streets of Britain will be tidier than ever in time for Summer!
