These are the long term effects that the workplace can have on employees and not the immediate hazards, such as trips and falls. However, in 2016 the event is focussed on giving recognition to those providing excellence in their organisation, awarding the rising star in Health and Safety award.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>How does this affect you?<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/statistics\/\">Latest statistics<\/a> show that approx 102 million people are suffering from a work-related illness and 142 people have died at work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Work-related illnesses include:<\/strong><br \/>\nCancer; from asbestos, silica<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Other asbestos-related illnesses<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Respiratory diseases<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Noise induced hearing loss<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Work related skin disease<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Stress<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Mental health<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Hand arm vibration<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The aim of Health &amp; Safety Week 2016 in the workplace is instigating initiatives and programmes throughout the year. As CoSHH 2002 states harmful substances must be stored correctly, these substances can come in <strong>many different forms:<\/strong><br \/>\nGases<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Fumes<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Chemicals<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Vapours<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Mists<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Dusts<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Biological agents<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Asphyxiating Gases<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Nanotechnology<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">CoSHH requires companies that work with harmful substances to do all that they can to prevent and reduce the risk of employees becoming exposed to such substances. The HSE release <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/coshh\/index.htm\">Approved Codes of Practice<\/a> to clarify and simplify the practical advice which is available to help employers comply to the CoSHH regulations. Risk assessments should be completed to identify if any hazardous substances are used in your line of work.
