Leicester\u2019s annual Sky Ride event was held this weekend with thousands of people turning up to take part. The event consisted of a 5 mile traffic free route through some of Leicester\u2019s top attractions starting at Bede Park then on to King Power Stadium, Town Hall, Cathedral Gardens and the Cultural Quarter. Along side the cycling there was also attractions and free bike check ups. Olympic Gold medallist pursuit rider Steven Burke and BMX champion Keelan Phillips were there to show off their skills and support those joining the day\u2019s festivities.\"sky<\/p>\n

Solo riders, couples and families all took part in the Sky Ride and it was thoroughly enjoyed across the board. The positive responses stemmed from the fact that it was a free event and welcomed everyone. The Cyclists\u2019 Touring Club had an information stall at the event and Keith Lakin from the club said that it was a \u201ctremendous event which allows cyclists to come out and ride the city streets safely\u201d.<\/p>\n

Sky Rider participants also had the opportunity to take part in a treasure hunt and along the route were five family tickets to the King Richard III visitor centre and a \u00a31000 electric bike was also up for grabs in a prize draw.<\/p>\n

The organisers of the event were Leicester City council in partnership with British Cycling and Sky. Leicester City Mayor Mr. Soulsby acknowledged that thousands of people enjoy the sky rider event every year and he is pleases to show case the city\u2019s attractions. Leicester City Football Club also opened up their stadium for the participant to ride through in order to celebrate their recent promotion to the Premier League.<\/p>\n
