Many businesses now participate in the government’s Cycle to Work Scheme. The scheme is a UK government initiative that helps employees buy bikes and accessories at up to 47% off. This means travelling by bike doesn’t have to be as much of an investment.

What are the environmental benefits of cycling more often?🌍

Opting for cycling rather than a car, taxi or bus reduces emissions into the environment. Bikes release zero greenhouse gases, resulting in a cleaner air space.

Using a bike also reduces the amount of traffic on the roads, when using a bike for a journey throughout a busy area, it can be helpful to reduce a backlog of cars.

Travelling by bike is also more time-efficient. During peak times, travelling by car can double in time due to traffic. Cyclists do not need to wait in this traffic, meaning you can get to your destination quicker.

How does the Cycle to Work scheme work?

Your employer will purchase the bike at a reduced price. The employee would then hire it for a set period, usually 12 to 18 months. The employee pays for the bike through their pre-tax salary, which is called “salary sacrifice”. This reduces the employee’s taxable income and creates tax and national insurance savings.
