London’s Cycle Superhighway Plans

Two new Cycle Superhighways were unveiled in London yesterday which includes an 18 mile continuous East to West cycle route nicknamed the “Crossrail for Bikes”. The new routes will run East – West from Tower Hill to Westbourne Terrace and then North – South from Kings Cross to Elephant and Castle. The new routes will be substantially segregated and road space will be reallocated to those on bikes including one whole lane of the Westway flyover. Thousands Attend Sky Ride Event

Leicester’s annual Sky Ride event was held this weekend with thousands of people turning up to take part. The event consisted of a 5 mile traffic free route through some of Leicester’s top attractions starting at Bede Park then on to King Power Stadium, Town Hall, Cathedral Gardens and the Cultural Quarter. Along side the cycling there was also attractions and free bike check ups. Olympic Gold medallist pursuit rider Steven Burke and BMX champion Keelan Phillips were there to show off their skills and support those joining the day’s festivities. Cycle-Proofing Britain: 1 Year On

On 12th August 2013 Prime Minister David Cameron joined Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton and Jody Cundy – British Olympic and Paralympic champions – to announce a new government ambition to kick start a “cycling revolution”. This revolution was created in the hope that cycling barriers will be removed for a new generation of cyclists. Cameron announced his revolution at the British Cycling Watford event and vowed to make Britain ‘cycle-proof’ by funding £94 million to encourage more people to use bikes in eight major cities and four national parks. Staffordshire Go Cycle Crazy

Hundreds of cyclists gathered in Staffordshire this weekend to get pedalling at the second annual Cycling Festival. Over 700 participants cycle d in one of the many organised rides with routes mapped out for novice cyclists and experienced cyclists. Some of the UK’s top cycle stars also joined in on the festivities including Olympic two time gold medallist Ed Clancy and the recent Commonwealth track gold medallist Tom Scully.
